Fred Bachmann, Jr.
Saint Cloud, Florida

Family and friends will remember Fred as funny and witty. A storyteller at heart. Fred had a distinct love of discovery fueled by intelligence and healthy banter. He was well read and extremely intentional. Fred valued honor with a touch of humor.

Fred was born in New York City but spent most of his early years in Madison Wisconsin with his parents and five siblings. Fred was just a young lad when his Uncle Al taught him to fly and began logging his time.

Fred was proud to be a Vietnam veteran stationed as a dog handler at Tan Son Nhut Airforce Base during the Tet offensive. After returning he attended the University of Wisconsin and worked at TV stations in Madison and Greenbay Wisconsin. Fred would return to the military where the Army Reserve let him fly their helicopters.

Fred continued his love of flying and became a flight instructor. His career path led him to become a pilot for Simmons Airlines, later American Eagle. He went on to become a check airman at the American Eagle training center and ultimately a FAA Examiner where he would issue pilot certificates. Fred held high standards for his students and was rarely disappointed, and as such cultivated strong lasting friendships. After 9/11, Fred would be deputized as a Federal Flight Deck Officer (FFDO) to defend commercial aircraft.

When he wasn't saving the world, Fred traveled the world with his wife Judy. Their favorite adventures included wandering the streets of Barcelona and the landscapes of Alaska. They traveled throughout the United States visiting friends and family. Fred enjoyed sharing his many hobbies with his family and friends; he was a self taught woodworker, a licit gun enthusiast and an armchair politician. Against his wife's better judgement, he acquired an overabundance of woodworking equipment, though less fewer than he would have liked (but no lathe). Fred loved to travel whether on a cruise ship, motorcycle or his newest love: camping.

One of the good guys. Gone. Never Forgotten.

Fred is survived by his wife of 27 1/2 years, Judy Bachmann; his daughter Denielle Peters and her husband Chris; his daughter Christine Wallinger and her husband Sean; son, Michael Bachmann and his wife Kerry; grandchildren Kristen, Tyler, Cody, Margo, Amelia & Isaiah; siblings Joanna Anderson and her husband Trygve; Christina Juarez and her husband Paul; Raymond Bachmann and his wife Jackie; Theresa Doherty and her husband David; and many friends who will miss him profoundly. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in his name to the Salvation Army.
