On Wednesday, 11 January 2012, William David Banister, TSG (Ret.), 72, passed away in Anderson, South Carolina.

He was born on Sunday, 22 January 1939 in Honea Path, SC, and was the son of Benjamin Fred Banister and Isabelle (Allison) Banister.

William enlisted in the United States Air Force in September of 1958 where he received on the job training as Air Policeman at Altus AFB, Ok.

He served in Air Security Police Squadrons at Oklahoma, Canada, Montana, South Carolina, Alaska, and his most memorable assignment was with the 377th Security Police Squadron at Ton Son Nhnt Air Base, Vietnam.

He was a member of the first Air Force Security Police squadron to receive the Outstanding Unit Award with the Combat "V" for combat action that occurred on Sunday, 4 December 1966 thru Tuesday, 6 December 1966.

William retired in October of 1978 at Charleston Air Force Base and moved back to his hometown in 1986.

Mr. Banister is survived by his wife, Vera (Whitt) Banister, son, William Banister, daughter, LaCinda (Banister) McCormack, sisters, Joanne (Banister) Anderson and Lynna (Banister) Beeks, step-son, Tommy Baldwin.

He was preceased in death by his parents, Benjamin Fred Banister and Isabelle (Allison) Banister, wife, Deloris (Rowlett) Banister, son, Richard Banister, granddaughter, Melissa Ashley McCormack. Birth:
