Jerold Richard Cook, "Jerry" to many friends, was born Jan. 26, 1931, in Wendling, Ore., to Lewis Raymond Cook and Bertha Annie Cannon. He passed away Nov. 29, 2016, in Spokane.

Jerold was married on Oct. 23, 1950, to Doris McLellan. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary just this past October, having met the first time when they were in 6th grade in Grandview, Wash. Jerold spent 20 years in the United States Air Force having seen duty in the Korean Conflict and served with the 377th Security Police Squadron at Tan Son Nhut Air Force Base in Vietnam 1966-67. He spent 10 years after retirement as an Enlisted Reservist in the Air Force. He worked for 22 years at the Washington State Penitentiary, retiring as the Armory Sergeant in 1992 . He also helped to guard the dams along the Snake River after 9/11 happened. He spent many years after retirement at his son's place on Lake Roosevelt fishing with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Doris at home; his dog, Joy; children: Guy ( Darlene) Cook, Linda ( Ron) Queen; Grandchildren: Dave ( Andrea) Cook, Geri ( Matt) Bartz, Bethany ( Alex) McCauley, Kevin Cook, Kyle (Tanya) Nelke, Bradley Rood and Steven ( Jessy ) Lee; eight great-grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and good friends Gene and Alda Postlewait. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Howard Cook; sister, Helen Patton; and son, Richard Cook.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Washington State Veterans Cemetery at Medical Lake, Wash. or the Inland Northwest Blood Center in Spokane, Wash. Burial will be private at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery Medical Lake, WA. Memorial Service with Military Honors will take place Saturday, December 10, 2016, at 11 a.m., at the Blue Mountain Community Church, 928 Sturm Ave., Walla Walla, WA 99362.
