Ronald "Ronnie" N. Doggett

Giddings, Texas

Funeral Services for Ronald “Ronnie” Doggett, 77 of Giddings, Texas were held on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Giddings with Tim Pitts officiating.

Ronald “Ronnie” Doggett, was born on August 31, 1944 in Ballinger, Texas to Sadie Inez (Watts) and William Cleatus Doggett and never let them rest a day after.

His legend began there and continued to Pecos, where he almost graduated but was encouraged instead to finish at Blackwell High School in 1963.

Choosing to study agriculture at San Angelo College, he honed his 2-step, practiced his bull-riding, engaged in pranks with his fellow students, and built on his portfolio of fantastic stories.

A result of his lack of emphasis on books there led him to choose the inevitable and report for duty in the U.S. Air Force where he was an Security Policeman, with in the 377th Security Police Squadron, at Tan Son Nhut Air Base, Saigon, Vietnam.

Service to his country was his proudest accomplishment.

After Vietnam, he returned to Randolph Air Force Base and became a presidential guard.

He was most proud of his beautiful bride, Margaret (Silvers) and they were married in May 1966 before we went to war.

Though full of jokes and always looking for fun, he was a sentimental, nostalgic person, and he never tired of talking about how she was the best and smartest in everything she was, including wife, mother, and in the end, nurse.

Ronnie was the best dad in the world to Holly, Shelly, and Clint.

He made each of them feel as if they were his favorite child, and he did everything he could to make sure they knew how much they were loved and that they could accomplish anything.

He gave them the gifts of humor, joy, curiosity, creativity, kindness, self-worth, and an unending smile.

“Daddy Dog,” to Lydia, James, and Elayne, he thought they were just about the neatest people around.

His upbringing in a loving and joyful home spilled over into the lives of his own family.

Ronnie appreciated things.

In his younger years, he loved bottle hunting in the west Texas desert.

The stories about the things he had were unending–his collections and things passed down from family members brought him great joy.

He was the last one to leave a museum exhibit.

He always had a stack of books, and he was reading them all (often to you, whether you liked it or not!) Always curious, he had many hobbies, and he was a creative and prolific leather crafter who loved all things “cowboy.”

His work in the oil field took him from west Texas to New Mexico, Oklahoma, central Texas, and Kansas.

He drove hundreds of miles to drilling rigs all over the state, always with his cameras and part of his knife collection in tow.

An excellent storyteller, he gathered as many of those as he did friends through his long career as a drilling fluids engineer.

Ronnie received fulfillment from giving.

He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church in Giddings for many years and spent unending hours serving in a number of roles.

He enjoyed his time delivering Christmas gifts through the Baptist Men, was a Sunday School teacher, and fundraiser.

On Monday, August 15, 2022, he passed away at home at the age of 77 years, 11 months, and 15 days.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Wayne C. and Billy Bob Doggett.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Margaret; children and their spouses, Holly and Daryl Turicek, Shelly and Johnny Line, and Clinton and Veronika Doggett; grandchildren, Lydia Line, James Line, and Elayne Doggett; cousins; nieces; nephews; and so very many friends.
