Gary James Nicol, 66, of Las Vegas, Nevada, formerly of Collinsville, Ill., passed away March 4, 2017, after a short battle with colon cancer.

Gary was born July 9, 1950, in East St. Louis, Ill. He graduated from Collinsville High School in 1968.

After high school, he served in the Air Force and Marine Corps from 1969 to 1989, including six tours in Vietnam.

He is survived by his wife Francine; his daughters, Karen (Dale) Haukeli of Battleground, Wash. and Sabine Nicol of Tampa, Fla.; grandson, Ryan Haukeli; parents, Jim and Maryann Nicol of Fairview Heights, Ill.; siblings, Mike (Janet) Nicol of Decatur, Ill., Peggy Cooper of Fairview Heights and Kathy (John) Murphy of Belleville, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Gary's name can be made to a charity of the donor's choosing.

Services: A memorial service is being held at 11 a.m. on July 21, 2017 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Collinsville, Ill., luncheon to follow.
