Tommy Claude Poole, 79, of Bland County, Virginia passed away Sunday, May 28, 2023 at Waddell Hospice Center, Galax, Virginia.

He was born January 27, 1944 in Memphis, Tennessee the son of Thomas and Dorothy Yarbough Poole.

Tommy served in the Vietnam War as a dog handler for the US Air Force where he was awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star medals for his courage, honor, and sacrifice for his country.

He was a member of Davis Methodist Church of the Little Creek community where he taught Sunday School for 10 years.

Tommy enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, and possessed a great love of nature.

Survivors include his wife Barbara of 26 years; son Thomas Poole (Shawn), Arlington, Tennessee; daughter Denise Poole Grisham (Greg), Cadiz, Kentucky; daughter Kendall Jones, Southaven, Mississippi; nine grand children and one great grandchild; dear friends Kurt and Cindy Simmons; Tom and Kathleen McKay; Brent May; Pastor Linda Hale; Rita Roseberry; Joey and Lucy Chandler.

A Military Funeral Service will be held at Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, Virginia on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at 1:00 PM.
